On July 31, George Sandul, Labor Initiatives’ legal director, gave an interview to the National Broadcasting Radio on legal regulations and the current state of the domestic workers sector in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2024, the Parliament passed legislation to regulate domestic workers and, for the first time in Ukrainian history, incorporated the concept of \u201cdomestic workers\u201d into the law. However, many uncertainties and gaps still need to be addressed for this legislation to work effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
George said in an interview that, according to official statistics in 2024, only one person is officially registered as a domestic worker; however, the actual number of workers in the sector is estimated at around 150,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
More advocacy campaigns are needed to promote the possibility of official employment in this rapidly growing sector due to the ongoing war and legislative changes, especially regarding clear tax rules for domestic workers, which are currently uncertain. Additionally, Ukraine needs to ratify ILO C189 on decent work for domestic workers to align with international standards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
