Successful Compensation Payment for Delay in Labor Book
With ongoing support from Labor Initiatives (LI) lawyers, a worker at an agroindustrial enterprise in the Rivne region successfully defended his labor rights in court. For nearly two years after dismissal, the employer failed to issue the worker’s labor book—a document that legally records a person’s employment history in Ukraine.
At the time of the dismissal, Ukrainian labor legislation required employers to provide the labor book immediately and mandated compensation in the form of average wages for every day of delay. Although the relevant law has since been amended, this provision applied to the worker’s case.
LI lawyers prepared the legal claim and all necessary procedural documents, and advised the worker throughout the court proceedings. As a result, the court ruled in favor of the worker, awarding compensation of UAH 90,000 (approximately $2,450) for the delay in issuing the labor book.
