Training on Effective Union Representation for Nova Poshta Trade Union Activists
On May 8-10, LI supported capacity-building and communication training for the All-Ukrainian Trade Union of the “Nova Poshta” group of companies.
The event brought together 17 Nova Poshta union shop stewards and active members from across Ukraine. Over the three-day program, participants conducted a strategic union planning session, developed critical communication skills, and analyzed complex legislative issues affecting their daily operations.

The communication workshop was led by prominent journalist Tetiana Goncharova, who is sympathetic to union and labor topics, and utilized interactive tasks and group activities to simulate real-world union advocacy. Participants practiced articulating union benefits and navigating organizing efforts, receiving direct feedback from both peers and the trainer to refine their communication strategies.
The technical legal sessions focused on pressing labor law issues faced by Nova Poshta members on the ground. Labor law attorneys Inna Kudinska and George Sandul addressed practical challenges, including employer misconduct and worker disputes under Ukrainian law. Key topics included dismissal and reprimand procedures, the legal risks of signing employer “checklists” during layoffs, non-payment of bonuses, and labor rights for blood donors.

Additionally, LI lawyers provided a critical overview of the proposed draft Labor Code. They highlighted the most impactful provisions for trade unions and outlined potential risks to collective bargaining powers if the legislation is adopted.
