Grocery Store Workers Receive Around UAH 135,000 in Unpaid Wages
Lawyers from the NGO Labor Initiatives helped defend the rights and interests of four informally employed women working at a grocery store.
One of the workers contacted the Legal Clinic. She and three of her colleagues had been working without formal employment and had not received their wages for the final three months of their employment.
The workers decided to resign and recover all payments owed to them, but the employer did not respond to their verbal requests. They therefore sought assistance from the Legal Clinic of the NGO Labor Initiatives.
The organisation’s lawyers helped prepare a formal demand to the employer for all outstanding payments. With the lawyers’ assistance, the workers also contacted the State Labour Service of Ukraine and the State Tax Service of Ukraine, requesting that inspections be initiated.
As a result, the workers received around UAH 135,000 in unpaid wages for three months. The State Labour Service also initiated an inspection into the reported informal employment.
