On June 25, a group of MPs submitted a union-initiated draft law No. 11367 on amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On the Status of War Veterans, and Guarantees of Their Social Protection.”
The draft law proposes to grant the status of “person with disabilities because of war” to workers of enterprises, officials of local self-government bodies, public servants, and other categories who were injured, had contusions, mutilation, or diseases, received as a result of missile and artillery shelling, and other combat actions during their labor duties during martial law.
Those workers who suffered injuries, mutilations, contusions, or other health injuries, which led to a partial loss of working capacity without establishing disability, also will obtain a special status.
Family members of those workers who were killed while performing their duties will be deemed as family members of war veterans.
Labor Initiatives experts welcome such a legislative initiative as those workers who were injured because of war (and family members of those who were killed) will be entitled to additional social guarantees, extra days of leave, and higher pensions on disability. The pension on disability that occurred because of war is 3-5 times higher than the ordinary pension on disability.
According to data from the State Labor Service of Ukraine, from February 24, 2022, to January 1, 2024, 1,212 workers were injured from accidents at work as a result of military (combat) actions, of which 413 died.
