Labor Initiatives Legal Clinic Helps an Internally Displaced Worker Recover 60,000 UAH in Unpaid Wages

about-1

An internally displaced worker employed at a retail clothing chain approached the Labor Initiatives Legal Clinic for assistance.

The worker’s labour relationship had not been properly formalised, and for the last three months of employment the employer completely stopped paying wages. After deciding to resign, the worker attempted to recover the unpaid salary, but her verbal requests to the employer were ignored.

Lawyers from the Legal Clinic assisted in preparing a formal written claim to the employer demanding full payment of the outstanding wages. In addition, with legal support, the worker submitted complaints to the State Labour Service of Ukraine and the State Tax Service, requesting inspections of the employer.

As a result, the worker received payment of wage arrears for three months, amounting to approximately 60,000 UAH.

This case highlights that even in situations of informal employment and displacement due to war, workers can successfully defend their labour rights.
