Addressing Environmental Rights
On July 25, George Sandul, Labor Initiatives legal director, co-chaired the regular meeting of the Social and Economic Expert Council under the Parliamentary Commissioner on Human Rights (Ombudsman of Ukraine). The meeting aimed to address issues of environmental security in Ukraine and the role of civil society in monitoring and securing human rights.

In his speech, George emphasized the wide range of powers in the environmental sphere trade unions currently have under Ukrainian legislation. He also stressed that the labor movement, as an integral part of civil society in Ukraine, may play a major role in securing workers’ environmental rights and the transition process, which is especially relevant during Ukraine’s post-war recovery.
