On March 19, George Sandul, LI legal director, co-chaired a regular meeting of the Expert Council on Economic and Social Rights under the auspices of the Human Rights Ombuds Office of Ukraine. The meeting was devoted to the draft Labor Code sent to social partners for consideration in January 2024.

George made a presentation about the draft focusing on the potential labor and union rights violations in case of its adoption and outlining the general discourse of the ongoing labor reform.

Unions and CSOs, academia and disability group representatives, and Human Rights Ombuds office experts also expressed their concerns about the proposed draft.

As a result of the meeting, the Expert Council voted to disapprove of the draft Labor Code in the proposed edition. The Ombuds Office will send critical concerns and stress to the Ministry of Economy (the author of the draft law) that the draft contains potential labor rights violations and should be revised.
