Education institution workers in Lviv challenge unlawful layoffs with support from Labor Initiatives lawyers

When an employer decides to carry out layoffs in violation of labor legislation, many workers believe that the easiest option is to avoid conflict and simply leave their jobs. It may seem that management holds all the power and that challenging such decisions is pointless. However, this is not the only possible outcome.

Workers at an education institution in Lviv refused to accept layoffs that were planned in violation of labor law. Instead of quietly leaving their positions, they sought legal assistance and began defending their labor rights.

With the support of lawyers from the NGO Labor Initiatives, the workers are systematically and substantively challenging the unlawful actions of the employer. Legal work on the case has been ongoing for several months and demonstrates that workers can effectively defend their rights when they act collectively and have professional legal support.

The details of this case and key aspects of defending labor rights are discussed in a new episode of the Honcharova Podcast. The episode features Kateryna Shvets, a lawyer at Labor Initiatives, and Tetiana Blyzniuk, a worker of the education institution, who share insights into the case and explain what workers should know when facing similar situations.
