Enhancing Knowledge of War Veterans Labor Guarantees

On December 14, the Labor Initiatives team was invited to present the handbook “Labor Rights and Guarantees for War Veterans” to the union members of the Construction and Building Materials Industry Workers’ Union (PROFBUD), who gathered for a three-day training in the Kyiv region.

The handbook’s publication last week raised the interest among union partners and readers of LI social media. Its advantage is in its practical lifehacks, suggestions which help war veterans and workers’ representatives better navigate labor legislation and safeguard war veterans’ labor and social rights.

During the session, LI lawyers Alina Antonenko and Kateryna Shvets emphasized the particularities of war veteran status in Ukrainian law and touched upon the common and likely legal situations war veterans could face at work.

This guide is especially useful for PROFBUD as thousands of construction workers are now defending Ukraine on the frontline. While keeping in mind Ukraine`s reconstruction perspectives, PROFBUD, jointly with local business partners, regional authorities, and international donors, is developing the project Hubs of Informal Vocational Training. These courses focus on obtaining new competencies and work skills in the construction sphere and are already functioning in several regions in Ukraine. They help, in particular, war veterans who have already been demobilized and have a desire and ability to work in the construction sphere in their return to civic life.
