Expanding Partnerships to a New Sector
On October 26, the Solidarity Center and Labor Initiatives supported the building capacity training for the Forestry Industries Workers’ Union of Ukraine held in Lviv.
25 union leaders actively participated in the legal session conducted by Inna Kudinska, SC and LI attorney, and George Sandul, LI legal director. The session was devoted to the current procedure for resolving collective labor disputes and to the recently submitted draft law No.12034, which aimed to replace the valid law.
The Forestry Industries Workers’ Union encompasses over 7,000 members working in wood processing, pulp and paper industry, and national natural park conservation. Enhancing union sustainability, increasing knowledge of labor rights, and upskilling in emergency first aid are essential for the union. Its members will be critical for the future reconstruction processes in Ukraine, and union growth has perspectives considering that all forestry industry enterprises are located mainly in Ukraine’s relatively safe western and central regions.
