George Sandul discusses wage arrears as the most common labour rights violation in Ukraine

George Sandul, Legal Director of the NGO Labour Initiatives, appeared in another episode of a podcast hosted by Ukrainian journalist Tetiana Goncharova, focusing on the issue of wage arrears in Ukraine.

During the discussion, Sandul explained that non-payment of wages remains one of the most common labour rights violations faced by workers in Ukraine. Despite this, many workers do not actively defend their rights.

According to Sandul, workers often hesitate to speak out because they are unaware of available legal remedies, fear possible consequences, or simply do not see enough public examples of successful cases where workers managed to recover unpaid wages. In some situations, workers even sympathise with employers who claim financial difficulties as the reason for failing to pay wages.

He emphasised the importance of workers being aware of their rights and insisted that all work must be properly paid. Sandul also warned about exploitation by unfair employers and encouraged workers to seek support from trade unions, legal experts, and relevant authorities when their rights are violated.
