Labor Initiatives research on labor rights in the platform economy presented at the Ombudsman’s Expert Council meeting
On February 26, the first meeting of 2026 of the Expert Council under the Representative of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights on Social and Economic Rights took place.
This year, the work of the Expert Council will focus, among other priorities, on discussing the draft of a new Labor Code and developing systemic approaches to modernizing labor legislation in Ukraine.
The meeting was attended by Labor Initiatives legal director and co-chair of the Expert Council George Sandul. During the session, he presented the findings of the research “On Exercising Labor Rights in the Platform Economy”. He also outlined international approaches to regulating platform work and protecting the labor rights of workers on digital platforms.
Among the key issues: the legal regulation of platform work, the need for a legislative definition of the status of digital platform workers, and the adaptation of labor legislation to new economic models.
Our organization consistently advocates for establishing a clear legal status for digital platform workers and ensuring they receive the full range of labor protections. Work in this direction continues in cooperation with public institutions and the expert community.
