Renewing the National Human Rights Strategy
On June 11, George Sandul, Labor Initiatives’ legal director, co-chaired the Social and Economic Expert Council quarterly meeting, which functions under the Human Rights Ombudsman of Ukraine.
Members of the Expert Council discussed proposals for renewing and updating Ukraine’s National Human Rights Strategy to better reflect current conditions and the post-war reconstruction period. In 2021, Labor Initiatives already provided recommendations that were incorporated into the country’s latest National Human Rights Strategy.

The Human Rights Strategy, a legally binding document to be carried out by state authorities following United Nations International Standards and Principles and Ukraine’s Association Agreement with the European Union, was signed into effect by the President of Ukraine.
Ukraine’s National Human Rights Strategy, first developed in collaboration with international organizations and civil society in 2015, aims to create a document that clearly outlines citizens’ legal protections and to foster a society united by a shared understanding of the importance of human rights and freedoms to be safeguarded equally and without discrimination.
