Ukraine Updates Maternity Leave Rules

On July 13, the parliament adopted a draft law No.9271, “On Amendments to the Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine regarding Peculiarities of Maternity Leave Using”. 

As for now, the maternity leave entitlement in Ukraine allows a woman employee 126 paid calendar days of leave, 70 of which must be taken before the estimated due date of the child and 56 after the birth. In the case of two or more children and in case of complications of delivery, maternity leave is 140 days. 

The new law proposes women (in case she has no medical contradictions) decide how many days of leave she wants to spend before childbirth. The overall duration of maternity leave will not decrease. For instance, 20 days before and 106 days after delivery.
