Making AI Work for Trade Unions
On 14 July, LI supported a seminar on artificial intelligence (AI), exploring both the challenges AI poses for workers and unions, and the opportunities it offers to strengthen trade unions.
The event, held at the LI office, featured Anna Puhachova, a labor rights lawyer and Europass and Euroguidance Ambassador to Ukraine. She addressed some of the most pressing questions surrounding the growing use of AI in the world of work, including its impact on employment, labor rights, and workplace relations.

The discussion highlighted that while artificial intelligence presents significant risks – including job displacement, increased workplace surveillance, and new forms of algorithmic management – it can also become a valuable tool for trade unions when used responsibly.
Participants explored practical ways in which AI can support everyday union activities by assisting with routine administrative tasks, preparing documents, analyzing information, and improving communication. By automating repetitive work, AI can allow trade union leaders and activists to dedicate more time to activities that technology cannot replace, such as organizing workers, negotiating with employers, providing legal assistance, and building solidarity among union members.
The seminar encouraged participants to view AI not only as a technological challenge but also as an opportunity to ensure that innovation serves workers’ interests, strengthens social dialogue, and contributes to a fairer future of work.
