An internally displaced person who had worked at a chain clothing store sought assistance from the Labour Initiatives legal clinic after facing wage non-payment and informal employment conditions.

According to the worker, the employment relationship had not been properly formalized, and during the last three months the employer completely stopped paying wages. After deciding to resign and request payment of the owed salary, the employee received no response to her verbal appeals.

With the support of LI lawyers, the worker prepared and submitted an official appeal to the employer demanding payment of all outstanding wages.

Additionally, Labour Initiatives helped the employee submit requests to the Labour Inspectorate and the State Tax Service in order to initiate an inspection regarding the employer’s actions.

As a result of these steps, the employee received approximately UAH 60,000 (about $1,500), covering three months of unpaid wages.
